CALUMS Scholarship
CalUMS offers a number of scholarships to provide our students with the support system they need to succeed.
CALUMS Scholarship Opportunities
⭕️ CALUMS Quarterly Scholarship
The CALUMS Quarterly Scholarship is designed to support students who have demonstrated exceptional academic performance and require financial assistance.
Scholarship Details:
- Amount: $400.00 per recipient, each quarter.
- Number of Recipients: This scholarship will be awarded to a maximum of three (3) students each quarter. The Scholarship Committee may increase the number of recipients at its discretion.
- Eligibility:
- Must be currently enrolled in CALUMS.
- Must have completed at least three (3) quarter terms with a full academic load.
(Full academic load means at least 8 quarter units for graduate students.) - Must have earned a minimum GPA of 3.5 for graduate students in the most recent quarter term.
- Students on on-campus employment may apply, but those receiving other forms of financial assistance are not eligible.
- Award Limit: Each student may only receive the CALUMS Quarterly Scholarship once during their program of study at CALUMS.
Application Procedure:
- Essay Submission:
Students must submit a written essay to the Office of Student Services by the end of business hours on the Friday of the fifth (5th) week of each quarter term. - Essay Format:
- One-sided, letter-sized paper, double-spaced with 1-inch margins on all sides.
- No staples.
- Maximum of 2 pages.
- Essay Content:
The essay must include: - Identification: Full name, program enrolled in, expected graduation date.
- Introduction: A brief background, interests, prior education, work experience, experience at CALUMS, and future plans.
- Financial Need: A description of how the scholarship would help the student succeed at CALUMS and any specific financial hardship(s) the student is facing.
- Review Process:
The Office of Student Services will review all applications and schedule a meeting of the Scholarship Committee, which will select the scholarship recipients. The decision of the committee is final. - Award Distribution:
The Finance Office will process and issue individual checks, and the Office of Student Services will arrange an award ceremony.
⭕️ CALUMS Board of Trustees Scholarship
The CALUMS Board of Trustees Scholarship aims to encourage student involvement with the school’s founding philosophy and mission, particularly as it influences student life and personal development.
Scholarship Details:
- Amount: $500.00 per recipient, each quarter.
- Number of Recipients: A maximum of two (2) recipients will be awarded this scholarship each quarter.
- Eligibility:
- Must be currently enrolled in a degree program at CALUMS.
- Must have completed at least one (1) quarter term with a full academic load. (Full academic load means at least 8 quarter units for graduate students.)
- Must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 for graduate students.
- Students receiving other types of financial assistance may also apply.
Application Procedure:
- Study the CALUMS Founding Philosophy:
Students must review CALUMS’ Founding Philosophy and develop a commentary. - Commentary Requirements:
- The commentary should:
- Expound on the underlying principles of the philosophy, building on the ideas and concepts already stated.
- Cite significant publications or personal experiences that relate to the CALUMS Founding Philosophy (optional).
- Describe how the student has personally benefited from adhering to CALUMS’ founding philosophy.
- Recommend potential learning enrichment activities, programs, or student initiatives.
- Formatting and Submission:
- Use Microsoft Word.
- 12-point Times New Roman font, one-sided, letter-size (8.5” x 11”), double-spaced with 1-inch margins.
- Cover page: Include full name, student ID number, program enrolled in, expected graduation date, and date of submission.
- Commentary (excluding cover page) should not exceed 700 words.
- Submit the commentary to the Office of Student Services at ssa@calums.edu by the close of business hours on the Friday of the fifth (5th) week of the quarter term.
- Evaluation Process:
The commentaries will be reviewed and rated by evaluators based on creativity, relevance, depth, and practicality. - The top 5 commentaries with a minimum of 70 points will be forwarded to the President for final approval.
- Award Ceremony:
Recipients of the CALUMS Board of Trustees Scholarship will be honored during the Quarterly Awards Ceremony.
